pain relief with the sciatic nerve?

I have a sciatic nerve problem is pain in the lower back, my back and my leg feels like its been drilled. I also help Vicodon not have tried Motrin. The doc gave me and I have Xanax Valium. I prefer something that is not going to zonk me out. Any suggestions? I just returned of an MRI but no results.
